Play offline — no connection needed

Every one of our 37 games runs entirely on your device. Once a game is installed, you do not need an internet connection to play it, to save your progress or to see your statistics. There is no game server to reach, no login screen to get past, and nothing to download before a round can start.

What works completely offline

Everything that makes up the game itself. The full rules engine runs locally, so a deal behaves exactly the same in airplane mode as it does on Wi-Fi. Your current game is saved on the device, which means you can close the app mid-hand, lose signal, restart your phone, and pick the deal back up where you left it. Scores, streaks and statistics are stored locally too, and undo works throughout.

The games that let you play against opponents are no exception: those opponents are computer players running on your device, not people connected over a network. A full match of Backgammon, Belote or Rami works with the phone in airplane mode from the first roll to the last point.

What needs a connection

Three things, and it is worth being precise about them rather than promising more than the apps deliver.

  • Installing a game, and later updating it, goes through the App Store or Google Play and needs a connection.
  • Advertising is loaded from the network. Our games are free and ad-supported, with a banner outside the play area — when you are offline, that banner simply does not appear.
  • Nothing else. There is no cloud save to synchronise, no leaderboard to fetch and no account to authenticate, because there is no account at all.

How to play without internet

Install the games you want while you still have a connection — each one weighs between 25 and 100 MB, so a handful of them fits comfortably on any phone. After that, nothing else is required. Switch to airplane mode, go down into the metro, board a plane, cross a border without a roaming plan, or walk into a building with no signal: the games open and play exactly as before.

Because nothing is being fetched while you play, offline sessions also use less battery than the same time spent in an app that keeps a connection alive. And since no data is transferred during a game, playing costs nothing against a limited mobile plan.

Which games work offline

All of them. The table below lists the full catalogue, generated from the same source as the site itself, so it cannot drift from what is actually published.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to download anything extra to play offline?

No. Everything a game needs is included when you install it from the App Store or Google Play. There is no additional content pack, no first-launch download and no setup step that requires a connection.

Are my scores and progress saved when I am offline?

Yes. Your current deal, your statistics and your best scores are written to the device as you play, whether you are connected or not. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means your progress stays on the phone it was made on.

Do ads still show when I am offline?

No. Ads are loaded from the network, so with no connection there is nothing to load and the banner does not appear. The game itself is unchanged: no feature is locked behind an ad, and none of them interrupt a hand.

Does playing against opponents work offline?

Yes. In Backgammon, Belote, Rami, Reversi, Yahtzee and Farkle you play against computer opponents that run on your device. There is no online matchmaking to wait for, so a full match works in airplane mode.

Do the games send my data to a server while I play?

No data is needed to play, and the games do not require an account. What is processed when advertising is displayed, and the choices you have, is set out in our privacy policy.
